Oil Sands Discovery Centre

The Oil Sands Discovery Centre in Fort McMurray is located in the center of the world’s biggest oil deposit. (Athabasca Oil Sands) The Oil Sands Discovery center is an educational facility about the Oil Sands. MacDonald Island Park

MacDonald Island Park located down town Fort McMurray. It is Canada’s largest community recreational, leisure and social center. You can find the Suncor Community Leisure Center, Syncrude Aquatic Center, and the Miskanaw Gold Club all at this one location! They are currently in the planning stages of an outdoor expansion. Northern Lights

The Northern lights are caused by a solar wind of electrons and protons, that comes from the sun collides with gases in the upper atmosphere. These colors can range from dark red to green. Because Fort McMurray is located on the 56th parallel this can be seen from Fort McMurray on some cold, clear nights between October and March. The lights can appear at other times of the year, but the long daylight hours will make your viewing time very limited. This is something you don’t want to miss!

 

Heritage Park

Heritage Park is located down town Fort McMurray. Come to the park in the summer and you can take a stroll through Fort McMurray History! You can find Historic buildings and artifacts that show a time line of the communities interesting history.
